Oregon Coastal Mapping Resources
Oregon Coastal Atlas - This collaborative program between the Oregon Ocean-Coastal Management Program, Oregon State University and Ecotrust provides background information on coastal systems, access to interactive mapping tools, online geospatial analysis tools, and direct download access to coastal natural resource data sets. The OBMP is working with the Atlas to provide the public with the ability to map and analyze beach water quality monitoring data.
DEQ Location Improvement Tool - This mapping tool allows easy access to maps and aerial photos with water and transportation overlays. In aliition to covering the coast, the system covers most of the rest of the State.
USGS Terra Server - This mapping tool is one of the world's largest online databases, providing free public access to a vast data store of maps and aerial photographs of the entire United States, including the Oregon coast. It features both aerial photographs and topographical maps of the coastline.
Rainfall, Buoy and Tide Data Sources
Oregon Climate Service - OCS is the state repository for weather and climate information, and provides access to data from more than 50 rainfall gauges along the coast and throughout the coastal mountain range.
WeatherUnderground.Com - One of the largest networks of amateur rainfall gauges, this site provides links to hourly precipitation data for several private rainfall gauges along the coastline.
Agrimet Network - This is a satellite-based network of automated agricultural weather stations operated and maintained by the Bureau of Reclamation. The stations are located in irrigated agricultural areas throughout the Pacific Northwest. Daily and hourly precipitation data can be accessed for two coastal stations at Bandon and Brookings, Oregon.
Hatfield Marine Science Center - The SMSC provides delimited text files of hourly rainfall data for the Newport, Oregon area of the coast.
National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) - This NOAA program is part of the National Weather Service (NWS), and designs, develops, operates, and maintains a network of data-collecting buoys and coastal stations. With many of these buoys along and just off the Oregon coast, the site provides access to hourly observations of variables such as wind speed, direction, gust, barometric pressure, air and sea surface temperature, wave height and many others.
BuoyWeather.Com - This is one of the largest global databases of wind and wave data going back to 1997. The site also provides access to meteograms, dynamic weather charts, and provides a service for receiving buoy data by email.
Tide & Tidal Current Predictions Data - This NOAA service collects, analyzes and distributes historical and real-time observations and predictions of water levels, coastal currents and other meteorological and oceanographic data, and provides tide predictions for waters along the Oregon coast.
