Registration and Testing

If Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a new concept for you, please read the Introduction to Electronic Business Practices page first.  If you have any questions about the registration and testing process, contact EDI Support Services at DHS.EDIsupport@state.or.us or call 888-690-9888.

EDI Registration Packet

You will need to download, complete, and return the Trading Partner Agreement (TPA) forms in the EDI Registration Packet (PDF) in order to get ready for the testing process required for conducting business electronically with DHS. Please note that TPAs currently submitted to DHS will not be processed until December.

Business-to-Business testing

Once DHS receives and approves a completed Trading Partner Agreement, a member of DHS EDI Support Services will call each submitter and provide them with specific instructions and guidelines, including logins and passwords, to complete business-to-business (B2B) testing.

B2B testing verifies that EDI submitters can successfully exchange EDI transactions with DHS. Once EDI submitters pass B2B testing, DHS can then move them to EDI production status, where submitters submit live claims and inquiries to DHS. For more information, go to the EDI Production page.

Replacement MMIS testing for current trading partners

In December, DHS will only continue exchanging EDI transactions with trading partners who test to make sure they can submit and receive the updated transactions. This includes submitting 837 claim transactions, 270/271 eligibility verification transactions, and 276/277 claims inquiry and response transactions.

DHS began EDI testing in the replacement MMIS on July 10, 2008. To make sure all trading partners who exchange data with DHS today can do so in the new system, EDI Support Services will test 837 claims transactions for fee-for-service (FFS) providers in priority order:

  1. FFS providers billed through clearinghouses first;
  2. Managed care organizations second;
  3. All other provider submitters (who bill DHS directly) last.

Current trading partners who want to change their add or remove registered EDI transactions or change their submitter information must complete the Exhibit C - EDI Registration Change form (Word) (PDF).

  • Before current trading partners can test their transactions in the replacement system, they must make sure they can connect to the new MMIS server. Make sure to contact DHS EDI Support Services for your current password to the new server. Detailed instructions are available here.
  • Testing for the new 278 EDI transaction for prior authorization (PA) will occur after the replacement MMIS is fully operational.
